Negative thoughts, leads to negative actions, which will get you negative results.
Negativity breeds more negativity. It’s a downward spiral of unresourcefulness, incapacity, and self-doubt.
You stop yourself, you become more and more afraid.
I was like that for a long time. I’ve been able to build my way out of negative thinking. There are still traces though.
The work, the journey continues.
Focus on progress and getting better, and don’t let your initial attempts to dispel your negativity, breed more negativity.
How do you not have negative thoughts?
Control your environment
Environment has a profound impact on our thoughts, by being what stimulates our thinking, and presenting us with what we see, feel, and experience.
Our environment has the power to shape what we feel, and what we think. Think about the last time you watched a movie, and felt what the actors on the screen were feeling, being swept along by the scenes, sounds, and music of the moment.
If you put yourself in an environment that’s not supportive, and makes it hard for you to do what you want, and then achieve your dreams, then you’re not going to get anywhere.
Control your environment by making choices about it, and changes to it.
It’s the same with feelings.
I choose the places that help me feel at ease, and productive. I don’t choose a place that’s dark, and maybe inviting for a nap, or a place that’s distracting, with a lot going on.
To be able to write well, I choose a place that’s quiet and serene, so then there’s no outside distraction, and I can focus on my thoughts flowing out.
I also choose places without a television. It’s been some time since I’ve watched TV, or the news, and I’ve been the better for it.
Choose an environment, or make changes to it, so you don’t have negative thoughts.
Choose the people you spend time with.
Jim Rohn, one of the most influential speakers in the modern era, said that “you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.”
And I believe that. Values are caught, not taught, as well as our beliefs about who we are, what we can do, and what we’re supposed to do.
It’s the same with feelings and thoughts. Surround yourself with negative people, and you’ll quickly be seeing the way they see the world, and thinking the way that they think.
Instead, surround yourself with people who think positively, have a vision, dreams, and a goal that they’re after. People who are also actively working towards their goals, shattering their limiting beliefs, and overcoming their limits.
All to make their dreams happen.
Surround yourself with people who have a hunger for something more, something greater, and they let that hunger push them to do great things.
Choose the people you spend time with. Wisely.
Choose how you spend your time.
Not having negative thoughts is also about choices. Choices on what you do, and where you spend your time.
I don’t watch TV anymore. I don’t watch the news. It’s an active choice because the news is all negative, and it’s all sensationalism about the dangers and negativity in the world. That’s what sells TV, and that’s what majority of people are attracted to.
It’s also a dangerous habit to get into. You start believing the world is a bad place, instead of believing in the goodness that it holds.
I think about what are the important things that need to get done in the day, and prioritize them. This way, I can rest assured I’m working on the most important things first. No space for negativity and doubt.
I used to spend my whole day playing computer games. Why did I ever do that? Because Inside, I thought and believed negatively. I was escaping from the bad that had built up inside of me over the years.
Thoughts and feelings come from action as well. I stopped playing, and had to get back to contributing and working, no matter what that was. The first jobs after that were sucky.
But they got the job done. I’m in a better place now.
Condition yourself.
What you say, ultimately comes true.
If you say it enough times, you begin to believe it. If you hear it enough times, you begin to believe it.
That’s that power of words, of our language, of what we say.
It’s a challenge, but I do my best to catch what I am saying, and to be aware of them. Is what I am saying helping me? is it limiting? Does it show negative thoughts and beliefs that even I was not aware of?
What we say in our unguarded moments tells a lot about us.
Instead of waiting for the positive thoughts and beliefs to just take root, we can actually keep repeating affirmations and statements to ourselves.
On what we want, who we are, what we want to become, and what we’ll do to get there.
Take responsibility for the beliefs that you have.
Respect, trust, care, and compassion.
Whenever I had any of these feelings, I recall it was hard for me to have an negative thoughts.
If I respected someone, I always thought the best of that person, and the good qualities that they have. I treated them nicely and accordingly.
To trust someone is not just to be vulnerable to them, to be strong, knowing that you have someone you can rely on, and someone who’s got your back.
To have care and compassion for someone, genuinely, is to be open to caring and watching over them, and supporting them with what they have need for in the moment.
You can’t genuinely feel these feelings, and still have negative thoughts. At least, not feel that you’re not doing anything that’s valuable.
You’re making a difference in someone’s life.
Very positive.
Gratitude.
With gratitude, all negative thoughts are wiped away.
Because genuine gratitude comes from an appreciation of what you have, and what you’re going through. Who you’re with, and the impact they have had on your life.
I remember the times I was facing misfortune, pain, and heartache, it was always gratitude that pulled me through.
When times were though, and I hated being in my job, I at least told myself to be thankful for the opportunities and the people I was given the chance to serve.
Gratitude – it’s life’s secret drug.
Stay positive.
We will always have negative thoughts.
The question is do we let it take control of us, or do we manage it, and turn those thoughts into positive thoughts and energy.
It’s a habit, and like any habit, not having negative thoughts, and having positive ones, can be built.
Develop the self-awareness to catch yourself.
Take action by controlling your environment, and make wise choices.
Build it into a habit by taking consistent small steps.
Don’t have negative thoughts.
Teach yourself to have positive ones instead.

Great tips, Lippy! Thank you. It’s good to be reminded of these once in a while. 😊
We carry our weather inside us, and it’s a special endowment God gave us. I hope we use it often.
It’s also great to keep the faith. When we have done everything we can in moments of adversity, we cannot really control the outcome. We can influence at best. Sometimes a little prayer can help.
Have a good day, my friend. 😊
