What have you done today to get closer to your dreams?
Because life doesn’t wait for you, and it certainly won’t wait for me.
I’m tired of waiting for my chance, my time, and my opportunities to come to me.
One rule in this life: You make your opportunities, not wait for them.
What then, are you doing for your dreams?
Nothing
This is the most common answer.
And it’s not even deliberate.
I have grand plans and dreams for my life. I spend time envisioning them, and seeing myself make them come true.
But then, I wake up, hurry to get ready and dressed for work, go to work, get mired in the many things I need to earn a living and pay rent, and then come home tired, worn out, and just want to rest.
Rinse, and repeat.
It’s a trap I still find myself struggling with, and a lot of us find ourselves falling into day, after day, after day.
When I do nothing for my dreams, nothing happens.
It’s not going to magically come down from the sky, after years of hard work.
Is your hard work aligned to give you the results that you want?
I’m not a 100% there, yet. I still find myself falling into the trap of doing nothing.
Or choosing to do nothing.
1% better, everyday. Keep making small steps to doing, something meaningful.
Waiting
But when asked what I’m doing for my dreams, my answer isn’t that I’m doing nothing.
It’s usually some version of the phrase – “I’m waiting”
I’m waiting to have enough money in the bank.
I’m waiting for my schedule to free up so I have enough time.
I’m waiting for the perfect mix of conditions, both internal and external, before I make a move.
Perfectionism be damned. Never works when you’re starting something new.
Waiting is a feel-good version of doing nothing. You’re really doing nothing, but instead, chose to call it “waiting” instead.
I got into the habit of lying to myself.
We all do, to avoid disappointment, frustration, and pain.
But I need _______!
I used to think this was a different category, but it turns out, you’re just waiting for something.
So then, what’s stopping you from going out and getting it?
Excuses. That’s what’s stopping you.
Because when you die, the world doesn’t care about what you planned to do.
You only make a mark, a change, with what you actually do.
“Oh! Nice plans you got there, but too bad you were too caught up in the daily grind! Here’s a monument for you, and all of your dreams fulfilled!”
Yeah, right.
Is there a way for you to achieve your dreams, even if you had no way of getting that which you were waiting for?
I bet there is.
It’s all in your mindset. If you believe in it, you can achieve it.
I’m too busy!
At the end of the day, people say they’re too busy.
Heck, I say I’m too busy.
But that’s stupid, because who in their right mind would ever say, that they’re too busy to ever begin living the life that they want?
And yet, that’s what many of us choose. Every. Single. Day.
Regrets are made up of what don’t do, not what we actually do and risk.
I’d rather have struggled, risked, and reached for my dreams, than stayed safe and warm in my comfort zone.
Take little small steps out of your comfort zone, and watch your life grow.
