We all have freedom, but we’re not really free.
In this modern day and age, we’re finding ways to do things faster, easier, smarter, and cheaper. We’re breaking down barriers, labels, and working towards a more equal, open, fair, and just world.
So then, why aren’t there more happier people?
Why aren’t there more people going for, and achieving their dreams?
Why aren’t more people satisfied with their lives, and where they’re headed?
And all this, despite all the freedom afforded to us.
Why are we not really free?
At the simplest level, we don’t have real freedom in life because there are external and internal factors stopping us.
Has the following situations ever happened to you?
You have toxic and distracting co-workers, which means you have trouble performing at the office, and asking for help from your co-workers?
You were afraid of meeting and talking to new people, because you’re afraid of what they’ll think of you. You’re also afraid of public speaking, and going out of your way to help strangers.
You care too much about other people’s opinions, especially your spouse, family, children, parents, friends, co-workers, boss, community members, even strangers?
You stop yourself from learning new skills and having new experiences because you think you won’t be able to do it, or that you don’t have the capability?
You frequently start sentences, especially reasons, with the phrases “I have to…”, or “I should…”, or “I need to…”, or even “I have no choice…”?
In all of the situations, there was something there that was holding you back, and making you feel forced to pick certain decisions and situations that you would not have done, or picked, otherwise.
When we choose something that’s not really our choice, or of our choosing because it’s affecting something very important for us, then we’re not really free.
We place ourselves in prisons of our own making.
The good news is, you can get out, and have real freedom in life.
What does it mean to build freedom in life?
The details of what having freedom in your life is really up to you, but no matter what you choose or want, the following is true:
Freedom in life is being able to do what you want, when you want it, and to find ways to achieve it. It’s the power you have to choose, and to always have a choice no matter the circumstances or situation.
It can mean that you’re able to make decisions and actions, with certainty, confidence, and purpose, and with no guilt, no regret, and no resentment. This includes the times when you want to say no, but have a hard time doing it.
You don’t feel forced into situations and decisions, and you choose based on what you value and hold important.
You’re also not chained to your feelings, moods, circumstances, and you also have a choice on what you do, despite what you’re feeling.
Ultimately, to build freedom in life, is to take back and assume complete control over your life.
