We all have superpowers.
We just don’t know it.
Each person has a tremendous capacity to imagine, to dream, and to do. And we use a variety of talents, strengths, and powers, to make it happen.
But I always believed powers to either be magical, supernatural, or just plain freaky.
They’re not.
Inside of me, and of you, are our superpowers that lay dormant, because we don’t recognize them, don’t use them, or don’t develop them.
What are your superpowers, hiding?
Observation
The opportunities that I have been able to take advantage of, was because of the fact that not only was I ready to take them, but that I saw them in the first place.
The power to see what truly is, and to begin from there.
One obstacle I had to seeing what truly is, is the meaning that I give to what I see and what was happening to me in my life.
See things and situations for what they really are, and then accept the reality.
Only then, can real progress be made.
Empathy
I used to think that the ability to be sensitive, and to empathize, is a talent that only certain people have.
Yes, some people have that talent to a great degree, but on a biological level, we all have the ability to feel what other people are feeling.
We have what are called mirror neurons, which allow us to mirror not only what we observe physically, but to also feel what other people are feeling.
What that means, is that I have the ability to feel what you are feeling, and to have a sense of what you’re going through.
Such is the power of human beings, who have evolved and survived through the power of community and tribes.
If you are able to empathize, then it is easier for you to meet and build relationships, and create deeper connections with people.
Action
I remember having all the answers, but there was no change that happened in my life.
Because having all the answers is an incomplete answer – you must put the answers, the thoughts, and the drive, into action.
It is action that drives you forward, that will make your dreams into reality.
It’s the closest thing you can ever have to a silver bullet.
The common trap that I get caught in, is planning. I want to be able to get great results, and I want things to be perfect.
That’s another trap. I can never be perfect, and if I wanted to be, then I’ll never get there.
Don’t go for perfect.
Go for DONE.
Influence
Us being social beings, we have the power to make other people see what we’re seeing, and feel what we’re feeling.
And to be blunt, to agree with what we agree, and to believe what we believe.
How else were people able to unite together under common banners, unify for just (and unjust) causes, and for them to change behavior, and viewpoints?
It’s influence.
And it’s a superpower we might not realize that we have and can develop, because each person influences in a different way.
Some do it with words, others through actions, others through data and strategy, others through emotions — it’s all different, and there is no one better than the other. It all depends on the situation, and more importantly, your talents, skills, and what’s authentic for you.
How then do you begin to practice and gain influence over others?
Gain influence over yourself first. You always have a choice.
Persistence
I’ve wanted to do many things, and yet, I’ve only succeeded in the things that I stuck with, poured commitment, energy, and resources into, and that I didn’t give up even when I started to see trouble, be in trouble, or be hurt from the trouble.
The power to keep on going, no matter what.
Human history is littered with stories of people who succeeded no matter the conditions, the situation, or the odds.
And they all have one thing in common – they didn’t give up.
Talents
I have my unique talents and strengths, and yet instead of focusing on them, I put too much emphasis on my weaknesses instead.
Where did that get me? I was able to shore up my weaknesses, but in the areas where I found things most easiest, and where I can potentially leverage for far greater benefit, I haven’t been using or developing.
Use what comes naturally for you, what you pick-up easily, and keep on developing it.
Use your talents, and manage around your weaknesses.
Super powers
I have an arsenal of tool, or superpowers in my life, that I can use to make my dreams come true.
Making something out of nothing.
If that’s not a superpower, then I don’t know what is.
Transform your environment.
Transform yourself.
